My students need basic supplies for a hands-on, science filled year. I want them to be as successful as possible, so we notebook (to keep everything in one place) in composition notebooks and color code notes.

My Students

Teacher cuts are impacting the next generation! My students have been impacted by so many things, and now, this. In 2013, my students were impacted by one of the largest tornadoes on record. Many of them lost homes, churches, or even family members or friends. We watched our community be rebuilt for just over a year. We are healing, as a community.

Many students in my district come from homes where both parents work.

They struggle to make ends meet and purchase required school supplies for students. For this reason, that burden falls on the teacher. Unfortunately, we live in a state where teacher pay is 50th in the nation. That's right, on the scale of teacher pay, we are #50 out of 50 states. Teachers in this state don't teach because it's a lucrative career. We teach because we care about the future of these students.

I have some of the best students in the state. They have their struggles, but they are incredible. They deserve a great chance to have hands on science opportunities!

My Project

Students learn differently than adults. They need to see important items set apart from the rest of the text. We do a lot of key word identification and word pictures in the classroom. For this reason, I need basic supplies to help my students in the classroom. These supplies include colored pencil boxes and composition notebooks to offset those students that can't afford to purchase these materials.

If you remember from your childhood, teachers spend a LOT of time at the board.

I am not a fantastic artist, but I can help students learn and remember material by color coding it as an example on the white board. This is why the dry erase markers are needed.

The videos requested will help students dissect the meteorological world around them. They will be able to see what scientists like Reed Timmer are doing in the field to help improve the science of weather. Kids love to watch videos, especially when it's something so relatable! Please help the next generation have a successful year in spite of the budget cuts to education!
