My Students
My first-grade students are outgoing, enthusiastic, and extremely creative! They come from a variety of backgrounds including military families from the neighboring base and one-third​ of our school's students come from low-income households. Last year, we were impacted by Hurricane Florence only 10 days into the school year and this year we were impacted by Hurricane Dorian after only 5 days of school! Thankfully we only missed a few days and we are back together learning and growing our skills together!

My Project
This year we have started chapter book studies where two students are partners and read the same chapter book. Then after reading it the next day they meet for their book club and discuss what's happening and how the story is building and events are happening. They absolutely love it, but we don't always have pairs and it's not as much fun as being able to meet with your partner the next day and recap all the awesomeness from the previous nights chapter. Even parents get in on the fun when their child reads the chapters to them each night in preparation of their partner club meeting the next day!
The enthusiasm and excitement is an absolute joy to witness!
