This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders are just dying to read chapter books, but there are so few that are written for beginning readers. This grant is for simple chapter books from four beloved kids series, and I hope you will consider donating to it!

My students are diverse, economically challenged kids who live in Colorado.

Our school is a choice school, so we have very diverse levels of readers in our classrooms, and in my first grade room that means I have kids who are still learning letter sounds all the way up to kids who are reading on a second grade level!

My Project

I need some easy chapter books that my grade-level readers can sink their teeth into, and that will inspire my lower level readers to keep working hard! The characters, pictures, and stories in the Henry and Mudge, Mudge the Puppy, Amber Brown, and Young Cam Jansen book series are just perfect for first graders!

This grant is important because having kids feel proud of their reading accomplishments is key to building life-long readers.

Being able to read a series of chapter books will really challenge, inspire, and empower my young readers. Now that kids are getting prepared to move into second grade, we are spending more and more time doing independent reading in class, and these books would help ensure that reading time is a joy for my class.
