it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We need tablets to do research like real scientists! In the science lab, we have no computers or technology to do research. On a daily basis, students ask questions that can't always be answered. We have a new budding scientist program which will require extensive research.
My scientists are so inquisitive and inspiring.
They love science and luckily for me, so do I. The students are predominately from high need homes and almost all receive free and reduced lunch. In the science lab, I work with students both in general education and special education. Additionally, we have an extremely large ELL/ENL population. For many of these students English is not their first language and English is not spoken at home. We have an amazing school environment and staff. Unfortunately, technology is lacking in our school.
My Project
I can't begin to count how many times a student asks an awesome question. Sometimes even the most educated teacher doesn't have the answer. Having technology, tablets, to research some of these awesomely obscure questions would make being scientists a little easier.
In a society that so heavily depends on technology it is painful to see students lack the resources to be active members.
Technology in our science classroom will help us move towards being college and career ready. Additionally, it will help them be part of the STEM movement. Being able to research new ideas, and feed curiosity will enable my students to be active learners and in control of what they are learning.
