Budding Scientists At Work

My students need a big screen microscope with an A/C adapter, prepared and blank slides, a layers of the Earth activity, and two exploration sets (one on magnets and one sink or float set).

This project is fully funded

I teach a 3rd grade class of struggling readers in a Title 1 school on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

My students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and have limited background knowledge. Many live in FEMA trailers as our community is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Because of that recent disaster, funds and supplies are extremely limited and used to purchase necessities.

I am asking for science materials to help my students build a variety of important skills. We need a Big Screen Microscope with an A/C adapter. In order to utilize the microscope to its fullest potential, we need a set of prepared slides and blank slides. In addition, our class needs a Sink or Float Exploration Kit, a Magnet Lab, and a layers of the Earth magnetic activity set. These materials will be used to help students learn to make observations, analyze information, and obtain a hands-on grasp of key scientific concepts. Through skill building, scientific exploration, and discovery, my students will gain valuable new knowledge and experiences. This will not only help to build their science background, but will help them become better readers, mathematicians, and productive students.

My students have been through a life changing experience over the last two and a half years. They have a lot to overcome. I am wanting to provide my students with materials that will spark their imaginations and brighten their outlook on life, in general. These materials will provide many hours of exploring and discovering that these precious children would not have had otherwise. By funding my proposal, you will be handing my students a key to their futures.
