Budding Environmentalists Researching Their Way to a Greener Future!
My students need Chromebooks, 1 color classroom printer, ink, paper, sketchbooks, pens, and notebooks in order to research, write, and create non-fiction student-authored and illustrated books about the earth's resources and environment.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Moss's classroom raised $1,964

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I teach are enthusiastic, curious, and passionate about the natural world. They love hands-on projects and activities that encourage them to use skills and talents they've worked hard to develop in science, writing, and art. They are especially interested in studying topics that relate to our environment.
Nearly all of the children I teach here at our Title I school in the inner city come from hard-working immigrant parents that strongly value education.
Although many of my students come from backgrounds of substantial economic hardship, you wouldn't know it by looking at their bright and shining faces. They are eager to learn and appreciate every opportunity to thrive.
My Project
The Tom's of Maine Green Your School Fund has inspired us to set up a research center in our classroom!
With the NGSS as our guide, we will be obtaining and combining information on how to best protect the Earth’s resources and environment.
Students will be gathering data about the influence of the atmosphere on ocean temperature and the ways in which the ocean's temperature is affecting the polar ice caps. We will be studying various ways human activities impact our vulnerable earth.
We currently have 1 computer and our only access to computers is in a weekly 40 minute session. As most of these students do not have the luxury of home computers, having access to computers on a daily basis in the classroom will greatly expand the breadth and depth of their learning.
Budding environmentalists desperately need sketchbooks and notebooks to draw, write, plan, brainstorm, and reflect on everything they learn in Environmental Science. By combining drawing with note-taking and writing students are better able to "cement" their learning. We will be creating interactive environmental science notebooks with diagrams, charts, and full color images which we print using our color printer.
Having 4 computers in our classroom will be an invaluable research tool that will enable the students to gather evidence from the internet to support analysis, reflection, and research. Along the way they will have the opportunity to create non-fiction, student-authored and illustrated books about the many ways humans are impacting our earth.
Thank you for helping to make our dreams of a research center a reality!
