Budding Dancers Need New Music

My students need 24 new music CDs to warm-up, stretch, dance, and relax to during their dance class.

My Students

Do you recall how difficult it was in elementary school to sit still in your chair all day? Well, I have the wonderful job of teaching dance in a elementary school where the kids can't wait to get out of their chairs and move around; only now we need some new music to dance to!

My students love to come to my dance class.

They are early elementary students and they can't wait to get moving. They love that I give them the chance to jump, skip, wiggle, twist, shake, dance, and completely express themselves in a safe and comfortable environment. Even the most shy kids eventually start moving. I find that the students are very supportive of each other in dance class. There is a bond that is formed when everyone is moving as a group to the same music. Dance class is one of the things that I know the students look forward to every week.

My Project

I am requesting many children's CDs for my dance class. My students love music and the music becomes such an important part of the dance class. I like to change up the music often while I am teaching. It is very important to me to introduce my students to different types of music and different cultures. I also sometimes like to use songs that the students are familiar with especially at the beginning of the school year in order to make them feel comfortable quickly. During an average dance class, I might play an African song for warm-up, classical music for stretching, Latin music for dancing, and Celtic music for relaxation and cool-down. I love giving my students the experience of hearing and moving to various types of music. My students gain a sense of ownership when I use particular songs over and over again. I also like using music from my students' cultures.

This donation will greatly impact my students.

I teach dance to roughly 350 students every year, so these students will be impacted by this donation. However, the entire school of 520 students will also be impacted as they attend dance show and other performances where these materials may be used. Having new music will cause much excitement in my school and the joy of dancing to this music will show all over their faces.
