My students need Duplo blocks. We need a variety of different Dupol sets like the garden, farm, and "girl colored" set to encourage girls to choose to build.

My Students
Engineers and architects don't only have to be male. I want to provide all of my students the opportunity and motivation to want to learn through building structures.
There are 18 energetic three and four year old children in my class.
Our school includes students from pre-k to eighth grade. It is in a high poverty area and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. Despite this my students come to school each day with a deep desire to learn. It is my job to give them every opportunity to do so despite the constant budget cuts schools are forced to endure.
My Project
I can't keep my boys out of the block center but my girls have to be forced to play there. Toys like blocks, Legos or Duplo Blocks are an important learning tool that I don't want any of my students to miss out on. While building students learn about, shapes, structures, balance and weight. This is why I am requesting several different Duplo Block kits for my pre-kindergarten class. Toy companies have trained our girls to be more attracted to toys that are pink and purple, so I am requesting Duplo Blocks that they are now marketing to girls in these colors. I am also requesting sets of build a zoo, farm, garden, fire station and police station. These sets will be introduced throughout the year to go along with different units we are working on. This will help keep this center fresh to continually motivate the students to play and learn there.
I have motivated my boys to build their nurturing side by placing boy dolls in pretend.
Now I want to motivate my girls to play in table toys by providing them with blocks that are engaging to them. Hopefully this will motivate them to break stereotypes and become an architect or engineer
