Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of the students in my classroom come from low income households. They are faced with many challenges every day. Many of their families struggle to provide their basic needs; sometimes they are working two jobs. My students are not fortunate enough to have been exposed to rich experiences, such as going to a museum and seeing works of art.
Nothing excites my students more, than working on an art project.
They become completely engaged and focused. They are true artists creating their own works of art.
My Project
Do you remember the feeling you got when you created something you were very proud of? Chances are, what you were most proud of and enjoyed working on, were art projects. Sadly, students today don't get to work on art projects as often as they should.
In our school, art supplies are very slim to none.
In order to work on most projects, students often have to share their materials, or I have to borrow from other teachers. I would like to start doing regular art lessons using different mediums, such as oil pastels. Having a class set of oil pastels and a spray to seal their work will really help.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
