Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a new and growing school we are still raising funds to support a full-time art teacher. Currently students have visual art classes for one half of the year and dance for the other. I provide my students with additional experiences in our classroom so they can continue to thrive as visual artists all year long, since art promotes children's inventiveness, engaging them in a process of self-discipline and self-motivation. Additionally, art activities help children develop a greater understanding of the human experience by developing creative problem-solving skills, accepting others' thinking about their work, and by communicating their thoughts in a variety of ways. I am not an art teacher, but I try my best. We fold paper cranes when we study symmetry. We draw with scissors, like Henri Matisse, to create Jazz Cut-Outs. We use oil pastels to re-create our favorite scenes from novels we read. I'd like to do more projects like these to expose my students to a variety of visual media, but I need supplies. Can you help me? I wish to purchase beautiful a variety of craft kits and high-quality paper for my students to use with the markers and pastels we already have in the classroom. Most of my students do not have access to art experiences at home, and my classroom budget doesn't have room for me to buy them. You never know... the next Hockney or O'Keefe may emerge from my classroom with your help! Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.
