My Students
My school educates children from Pre-K up to the 5th grade. My students are in fifth grade. They are so excited to learn, create, and explore academic avenues. This is their last year of elementary school before entering middle school! Many of my students have ESOL as a primary need. Therefore, I place a strong emphasis on reading and writing in my classroom. I strive to make my students develop a love for reading and writing every day. Can you help me?
My Project
My students will be reading Bud, Not Buddy this year as a class novel study. We will use this book as a read aloud. It would be helpful for each student to have their own copy of this book. We will complete an author study, book report, and other exciting activities to integrate this book into our academic day.
Bud, Not Buddy is an award-winning novel which tells the story of a young orphan living during the Great Depression.
The author, Christopher Paul Curtis, was recognized with an award in year 2000 given to influential African-American authors. This children's novel also won the 2000 Newberry Medal for Excellence in American Children's Literature. This novel will help my students make connections between literature and social studies content.
