The art room at PHS is a buzz with over 160 artists painting artworks during any given week.
Multiple classes will use these brushes from watercolor painting with Adaptive Art students, to glaze brushes for ceramics and personal brush sets for each student in my painting and IB art classes. The palettes will allow us to paint over time without our freshly mixed colors drying up, in addition we will waste less paint. All art classes have grown in the past few years and our paint brushes have seen better days.
New paint brushes and sta-wet palettes will make a huge difference in my semester long painting class. We work with a lot of acrylic paint, and with some class sessions lasting only 45 mins. Some students will mix the perfect color, only to have it dry the next day. We have been using plastic wrap, but again this feels wasteful and bad for the environment. New materials would create less wasted paint, and provide student artists a better variety of tools in which to create their artworks.
My long term goals are to teach a month long painting unit to my IB art students introducing a classical style for portraiture. Also to have weekly painting day for Adaptive art and Peer Mentors. Lastly to provide simple to grab acrylic paint sets for individual students in Painting class or IB students working on long term acrylic projects.
Our art program continues to grow each year at Palmer High. These brushes and palettes will help bring more art and color to our school. Painting is an act of hope. Every time we pick up a brush we choose to imagine a new possibility. Help our imaginations grow through painting.
