This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We work with special need students, many with multiple handicaps and medical needs. Often medications and an open mouth posture cause more oral hygiene issues than those of a typically developing child. Although parents do brush their child's teeth, we want the students to know that it is something they can do. We want to motivate them to want to and to teach them how to brush their own teeth.
Our students need adaptive toothbrushes and ways to hold a typical toothbrush in order to be independent brushers!
We want our students to take an active roll in their own hygiene. Students feel a sense of pride whan they are able to take care of themselves.
We want our students to be able to be independent with as many of the activities of daily living that they can be. Brushing their own teeth is the perfect thing to work on.
