BRSG-Student Leaders Welcome Ninth Graders to High School
Help me give my students the tools and materials needed to create an engaging, interactive and amazing orientation for incoming freshmen that will foster relationships and help to create a culture of inclusivity!
Can you imagine being a ninth grader at a high school where inclusivity is part of the school culture and ultimately the common goal? How would it feel to jump into the waters of high school as an incoming freshman and know that there is a group of other students who care about you being there because you are an important part of a team? Are there really students in high schools that care about the mental well being of its youngest and often most fragile members? I believe there are. Using the Link Crew program, which provides a structure that guides freshmen toward academic and social success, I believe I can help build an environment for incoming ninth graders which fosters all of these ideals.
Through the use of the Link Crew program, my goal is to put rising Juniors and Seniors in leadership roles to help welcome incoming freshmen to our High School.
Rising Juniors and Seniors will work together to lead incoming ninth graders in engaging, interactive and dynamic activities that are intended to reduce anxiety and make the transition into high school less daunting. I will use the drawstring bags, folders and name tags to help organize student groups for orientation. The markers will be used to make colorful signs that will give important information students need to see. The bubble guns and bubble solution will be used to welcome the freshmen into our high energy orientation celebration, and the tape will be used as an integral part of an activity geared to help students think about how they are going to juggle the different aspects of a successful high school experience.
