This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a middle school Social Worker in the South Bronx seeking funding for knitting supplies to begin an after school knitting club.

The Covid-19 pandemic has left many of our students with a delay in social skills and having a club where they can create community projects, will allow them to bond with their peers.

I have been an avid knitter since a very young age and know the benefits that knitting produces such as reducing stress. Knitting circles have been around for centuries where people knit and have causal conversations. I believe, especially with my students just coming back to in-person learning, that a knitting club will benefit them for these reasons.

My students in the knitting club would like to knit scarves to keep warm this winter. Having chunky yarn will allow them to finish their projects before winter is over.
