My Students
My students are a mix of special education students including students with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, cognitive challenges, and general education students.
They all work together and learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses.
All of them are team players and eager to learn, and all of them live in an underserved community.
Most of my students keep to themselves over the weekends and over vacations. It is my hope that they will start to feel a connection to the school community enabling them to spend more time together as families, friends etc.
My Project
Our school is in a very bleak area, mostly cement. A group of teachers have gotten together to create this beautiful garden for our school. We have put together gardening beds, filled them with compost, ordered seeds and classes have already started utilizing this amazing place to learn. These additional materials will help create a beautiful garden space, in the middle of the city, to connect the families in the community to the school. Our hope is that families will start working together to maintain the garden and students will thrive from hands-on learning opportunities by gardening. We want to make this space amazing for our students, and for the community.
