My Students
My elementary music students are talented, excited, and motivated by the arts! They love music, art, and drama, and are particularly excited by the new music room and art room at our school. We have a huge student body with approximately twelve hundred kids. I teach students in pre-kindergarten through grade five, general education students, language learners, and many special education students. Families at our school come from many countries, including Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Mexico, China, India, and more. Each individual student has something special to offer as far as culture and background. It is pretty amazing!
My Project
The materials requested for this project will help our 5th graders complete our next school musical. Last year, we did our best, but were lacking in some areas... costumes, props, lighting, and special effects! This is why I am requesting specific items to make the show more dramatic... fog machines, spot lights, essential costumes, and specific props for our show are essential. Students will be responsible for learning how to work in the area of "special effects" while others will be responsible for taking care and keeping track of props and costumes. Every student involved in our school musical has a special and important job. Students worked so hard, there was A TON of rehearsing, but in the end, we could really use some extra motivation to take our musical to the next level! This endeavor meant so much to everyone at our school, however, there is no funding to support us. While students, teachers, and families in the community came together and gave it their all, we want to raise the bar and give our school community something to be excited about, once again. Having a school musical in place really brought EVERYONE together and we would like to make this a tradition at our school... your help would be so, so appreciated so that next year, our musical can blow everyone out of the water!
