it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher for a special day program, I have an amazing opportunity to impact the lives of my students. We are 11 students in a CORE autism program at a low income school. Our grades span from Tk-2nd grade. We follow the same curriculum as our regular peers but also emphasize learning social skills and school routines. We need many different ways to learn including technology, hands on materials and opportunities to move.
Despite our label of having autism, we choose to break stereotypes by creating a family of empathy and working as a team.
My students often have difficulty communicating their needs and focusing. I am committed to help them make breakthroughs to continue their education and work along side their typical aged peers.
My Project
All of my students want to be successful and learn. They show their eagerness every morning when they walk into the classroom with smiles and excitement. There is so much to cover within the time given and opportunities with peers that cannot be overlooked.
Technology in the classroom ensures that every minute my students spend in the classroom is used to its fullest potential.
Not only are tablets a reward for good behavior, they are secondary teachers through reading and phonics apps. The apps are engaging and even help to encourage appropriate behaviors such as transitions to new activities and sitting in a chair.
