Bringing Virtual Learners Into the Classroom

Help me give my students at home the ability to participate in-class with their peers!

My Students

I teach in a preschool room in a low-income school district. My students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges that my students are facing, I strive to provide them with a fun, interactive, safe, and meaningful learning environment. As their teacher, I try to instill the importance of communicating/listening to one another, being a good citizen and leader, and using trauma-informed techniques to aide them in their social-emotional development.

My students have various learning styles' backgrounds and needs.

Due to being located in an inner-city, funding is extremely hard to come by, and in order to provide my students with the best learning experiences I can give them, I typically find ways to procure these items and experiences out of pocket or by any means I can, which is where DonorsChoose comes in.

My Project

The end of the 2019-2020 and beginning of the 2020-2021 school year is something that no classroom has ever experienced before. Between shut downs, virtual learning, hybrid learning, etc educators and students are learning different ways to teach and adapt to new classroom settings. Our district currently plans to Re-Open on October 19th with Pre-K students participating in a rotating Hybrid model (2 days in person, 3 days virtual). Currently our classroom is not equipped with enough technology to allow effective teaching or effective learning for students when their hybrid group is at home. Because of this, I am creating a few different projects with technology that my classroom needs in order for me to be able to teach in-person and to my virtual students simultaneously as we will be required to do during hybrid re-opening.

This project is for a large HD television screen that will allow me to connect our classroom iPad during classroom meetings and lessons and see my virtual students as they are following along to the lesson.

This will also allow virtual students at home the opportunity to be included and participate in lessons, class meetings, and social conversations with peers.

This project will also allow me to use our classroom iPad and my teacher laptop to project interactive lessons, videos/audio, and activities to a whole group instead of just 1 student at a time on the iPad. It will also be able to work in place of our classroom projector when the sunlight from outside is too bright to use it since our room faces direct sun most days and does not darken the room enough to use it when it is needed.
