This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever thought about what it would be like to never use a computer? How it would feel to look at the keyboard and have no idea how to navigate around the Internet or create a word document? That is the world my students live in.
My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere.
My 5th grade class is in a high-need, low income public school, nestled in the heart of southern California. Each of the students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner, who looks for the next opportunity to gain knowledge.
My Project
Many of my students have never used a computer before. They are simply too expensive of a technology for them to have access to. When we discuss various websites that an help reinforce mathematics skills or try to create Power Points as a class project, simply navigating around the computer becomes a barrier for my students. With this laptop computer and accompanying Microsoft Office software, I want to change that for those in my classroom. I want to give them the hands-on instruction they need in technological sciences. I want them to be able to see a computer and know exactly how to turn it on and use it. Using the laptop, I will be able to introduce an entirely new world to my 5th graders.
By donating to this project, you will be helping to shape the future for my students.
Technology is the wave of the future. These children must know how to use a computer, create Word Documents, investigate ideas and research on the Internet, type, Skype with other classes about current event, read about world news. Through your donation, you will help to make this possible for my 34 students.
