My students need a laptop so that we can consistently have our promethean board work. We are planning so many lessons on our board and need a laptop that can keep up.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine having a new piece of technology but missing a key component in order to have it work correctly. Our school was blessed to have new Promethean boards installed this summer. Now we need the technology update to match. With this laptop it will make all the difference.
I teach the only 5th grade self-contained class in my school.
That means I have the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students mixed in the the general education students. That also means that every second of the day is utilized and that any time that something does not work it distracts the students and it takes even more time to get them back to the task at hand. My group this year has been very understanding so far and works really well together, but most of them are already "playing catch-up" and for each minute lost, trying to get the technology to work together, is another minute they fall behind. I want to show them everything I can and expand their horizons to more than their quiet little neighborhood. I want to show them the world without ever leaving the classroom.
My Project
We will use the laptop and attach it to our Promethean board. We will use iBooks to display the novels we will read as a class. We will use iTunes to watch Bill Nye videos to expand on what we learn in science. We will use iMovie to make a movie about their 5th (and last) year in elementary school. This laptop will be used all day, everyday, to make a difference in the entire classroom.
This laptop will make the difference for us because we can take full advantage of what the Promethean board can offer.
I want to be able to show these students so much more without constantly having to stop and restart or recalibrate the computer or board. What a huge difference it will make to continue from one activity to the next seamlessly. I cannot wait to have such an opportunity and I want to thank you in advance for helping our small school with such a wonderful piece of technology.
