This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This fall, I’ll be a first-year teacher at the elementary school where I was a Resident Teaching Assistant in 2024-2025, as part of my teacher certification program training. During that time, I came to know and love this vibrant school community, from the hard-working families of our students, to the dedicated teaching and support staff that help make the campus a special place.
You can help me expand my students’ horizons by bringing the wider world into focus with the colorful, engaging and inspirational items on this list, all aligned to Texas standards for 2nd grade social studies.
Your donation will help my students build knowledge about the world and their place in it. It will also help them explore what it means to be a good citizen of their local community, state, and country through the stories of diverse Americans -- and others whose lives stretch them to think beyond national borders.
While emphasis on literacy & numeracy in the early grades builds critical skills, few things engage students’ wide-eyed interest more naturally than thoughtfully planned and engaging social studies and science lessons. Help me capture and build on this natural enthusiasm and love of learning!
