My students need an iPad Air, headphones, a portable hard drive and the flash drives so they can use all the educational resources there are and save pictures and videos.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
There are so many online resources available for students to use and learn from. The challenge lies in having enough technology to take advantage of these resources. I also would like for the students to take pictures and videos of the activities we do in the classroom and share with their parents.
I have a small class of 21 fifth grade Exceptional Education students, students learning English for the first time and general education students all mixed into one classroom.
I also teach After School Care so I am able to reach more students everyday. The neighborhood surrounding the school is very misleading because many assume that it is a fairly high socioeconomic area. However, 65% or more of the students are from low income families. Many of the students have just recently arrived from another country, have only a single parent, or even are being raised by extended family. Technology like this is not enjoyed very often.
My Project
My students will use the iPad Air and the headphones to get online and use the many educational resources that are provided by our school board. I will also provide the many educational applications that I have paid for and downloaded on to my own iPad so that they can use those to expand beyond what is taught on a daily basis. There are so many wonderful educational applications that touch upon subjects that we can only scrape the surface of given the time constraints we have. I also want my fifth graders to take photos and videos of their last elementary school year and include them in our end of the year slideshow that we show the parents. The students take so much pride in making something that is their own. We will use the flash drives to move data from one computer to the other (from the classroom to the media center) and the hard drive to save all the pictures and video and transfer the final product to their awards ceremony.
These resources will make all the difference in these students' lives.
They will get to use the iPad Air and the headphones to truly immerse themselves into the educational resources and applications available. They will get to play all while learning. They will also store their pictures and videos for their end of the year slideshow that reminds them of what they accomplished during their last year in elementary school.
