Bringing The Wiz to Life: Help Our Students Shine Onstage
Help me give my students the opportunity to introduce our newly established Theatre Arts program, as we prepare for our very first production: The Wiz musical.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The specific items we are requesting will have a profound impact on our students’ learning and the success of our very first production of The Wiz. By providing essential materials such as costumes, props, set pieces, and sewing supplies, we are offering our students the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences that will enhance their creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. These items will empower our students to take ownership of the production and see their hard work come to life on stage.
Our goals for this project are two fold.
First, we aim to put on a high-quality performance that our students and the entire school community can be proud of. Second, we want to create an environment where students can develop not only theatrical skills, but also confidence, collaboration, and resilience. This production will provide students with opportunities to work in different roles — from actors and singers to costume designers and stage crew — fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment as they contribute to the show’s success. We hope to build a lasting Theatre Arts Program that gives students access to creative opportunities for years to come.
What makes our students special is their passion, resilience, and sense of community. Many of our students come from diverse backgrounds and have limited access to extracurricular programs outside of school. Despite these challenges, they are eager to learn, committed to their growth, and excited about the opportunity to showcase their talents. They bring a unique energy and dedication to the classroom, and The Wiz is their chance to shine. This production isn’t just about theatre; it’s about giving them the tools and support to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve something extraordinary.
