Bringing the Night (and Day) Sky to Life!

My students need a Dobsonian telescope with a solar filter lens to provide more access on sky viewing nights as well as open telescope viewing up to daytime use!

My Students

The night sky is completely filled with wondrous objects! There are almost too many. My students need a sweet telescope to bring Saturn, Mars and other wonders of the sky to life. The filter in this project will let us view the sun as well, giving all students access during the school day.

My students are primarily 9th graders in a Physical Science class.

They are often yet to discover the excitement science can bring before entering my classroom. They come from a variety of backgrounds and ability levels, some freshly arriving from other countries speaking little English. However, with engaging opportunities all students can feel the wonders of science.

My Project

With the requested telescope, I will be able to finish off night sky tours with a bang. I lead groups of students on discovery tours of the night sky, first with their naked eye and star charts, then with high power binoculars, and then finally with the requested telescope. Additionally, when solar events are observable, we will have a protective filter to witness them first hand.

Astronomy is EASILY the favorite unit of our students in the Physical Science curriculum.

With these tools, they will gasp in awe at the wonders that they can see. Videos are for watching at home--come to school in the dark to get a REAL science experience with these awesome additions to our Astronomy unit courtesy of YOU, the caring donor.
