My Project
My precious students will come to school for the first time at two or three years old. My goal is to provide the most fun and loving first school experience possible for these little learners, with lots of opportunities to enjoy books and develop a love of reading and learning. I cannot wait to meet these little ones and make their first year of school a truly joyous one. We will read stories, sing songs, dance, play, and explore.
Young children need many positive experiences with books and language.
I'm requesting a collection of board books that my students can borrow from the classroom to read with families at home. Board books are perfect for my 2s and 3s because they are sturdy and will hold up as the children explore and interact with the books. I'm also requesting book baggies to carry the books back and forth from school to home. I was sure to include books in Spanish and Bengali to include families who speak other languages at home.
Reading books with their parents will help develop the children's language and love of reading, and will also build strong home-school connections. Reading to children also helps build their vocabulary and early literacy skills such as identifying rhyming words and letters. Reading enhances children's social-emotional skills as they learn about feelings and also encourages children to use their imagination.
