This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Sometimes students need a break. They walk in sleepy and tired. What I hear from my students: My baby brother kept me up all night...My parents had to drop me off super early... My family member was at the hospital...
Sometimes students need a break because they are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or agitated.
Especially, in a post remote learning world, my students can struggle as they acclimate socially and emotionally to learning with peers.
Bean bags can serve as a cozy and reassuring place for students to take a break. Having had bean bags in my classrooms in the past, I know how effective they can be for students who need to rest, retreat, and reset.
Both tired or struggling students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a chance to retreat.
Sometimes students need a pop - a pop of color! They enjoy using color pencils to highlight words, illustrate writing, and work on art projects. Color can help students engage in their work, customize, and be invested in their learning.
