My Students

My second graders come from all over the world. They each bring their own unique talents and experiences to the classroom and are incredibly excited about learning.

They are full of energy and enthusiasm and are beginning to come together to support one another!

They are passionate and love learning! As we read stories, they are constantly examining the illustrations and making observations that they are eager to share with one another. They are always asking questions, wondering why things work the way they do, or how things come about. They love working together with one another and encouraging each other to become leaders!

My Project

This year during Read Across America Week our students will be focusing on becoming storytellers through various different mediums, whether that be writing, drawing, singing, or acting! Fortunately for us their is an increased excitement over the release of Marvel's Black Panther film. Many of our students are excited to see this movie, and as a teacher, I am thrilled to see a superhero that reflects many of my students!

We will use copies of the Black Panther book to do a read aloud, discussing ways that the Black Panther used his powers to help his community, and the preparation that he needed to put in to become who he was!

We will also dive deeper into the sheer excitement around the movie, why people are excited, and the power that movies and acting can have on a society. Afterwards students will get the opportunity to learn about real life superheroes and storytellers before creating a script of their own to act out in front of the class!
