Help me give my students the opportunity to bring their creative ideas to life through hands-on design, sculpture, and innovation by using a 3D printer to explore the intersection of art, technology, and real-world problem-solving.
I teach in a Title One elementary school in Wagram, NC. Most of my students come from poverty, which means they may not have the same opportunities that other students from wealthier families have. I would like to help bridge that gap by giving them access to technologies that will help them not only learn but create. This printer would allow us to move beyond 2-dimensional projects and explore art in a whole new way. This printer would allow my students the ability to design and build original sculptures, jewelry, masks, or props. I would have a way to blend technology and art, while reinforcing problem-solving and spatial thinking. Students would experience the full creative process—from planning and prototyping to producing final pieces. This printer would give us an opportunity to reinforce motor skills, patience, and persistence. Students often struggle with persistence and patience, especially when it comes to visual arts class. This would give them an opportunity to see how working through their problems instead of giving up, can give them a tangible object to keep and remember this process.
