My students need books and storytelling kits to retell stories including 'Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes', 'Five Green and Speckled Frogs' and our favorite alphabet stories.
My students come to school every day excited and ready to learn! They are eager to learn and try new things. I want them to know that I believe in them and they can do anything! I teach at a Title 1, pre-k through 2nd-grade school in inner-city Ohio where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of the students are living at or below the poverty line. My students are creative, caring, and very energetic. Our classroom is a hands-on learning community. I work with children that are four and five years old.
Their ability to love learning excites me to find new and exciting ways to teach things to them.
They love to learn about new things. They love to look up information online together and will ask many questions to learn as much as they can.
My Project
Many of my students come to school without knowing the joy of reading. I read to my students everyday and I want to provide them with props that will help change this.
With the requested books, storytelling kits and magnets, my students will get excited to hear their favorite stories because they know they will get to use the pieces to retell the stories.
No longer will the students be just sitting and listening to the story, but now they will have a chance to engage in the story. The books will be used with some of the storytelling kits that we already have from part 1 of this project. These items will help with developing reading and language skills that they will need for the rest of their lives.
