Bringing STEM in 1st! From Robotic Play to Silicon Valley!
My students need two Wonder Workshop Dash Robots, two Osmos Genius kits, two iPads, two iPad shockproof cases and two Osmos Coding Jam Games to support Engineering and Coding while enhancing learning in the classroom.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What an amazing year this will be! Our school is university inspired, and our class will be representing Duke University! Our school is going into its 3rd year this Fall. Most students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunches and are ELL students. Many of our students and their families speak their native languages at home, therefore they lose out on English Language opportunities outside of the classroom. I am eager to make sure their time at school is engaging, rigorous, and meaningful.
I would like to incorporate technology and STEM into my new classroom to ensure that I give ALL my students ALL possible opportunities to be excited about learning and be successful!
My amazing first grade students are so very inquisitive, eager to learn, and work hard every day! I will have students who can read, and those who struggle with learning letter sounds. I will differentiate instruction to meet and maximize the learning needs of all 28 students. They are leaders and ready to REACH HIGHER AND DREAM BIGGER! I want to make every learning opportunity available to them.
My Project
Scholars in Duke University (Yes! We have a collegiate-inspired environment!) will learn how to code with Robots and the use of Osmos! My enthusiastic first graders will work together to plan and solve problems. Students will quickly learn to persevere throughout the many trials, working as a team to come up with solid solutions.
Computational Thinking + STEM = PBL!
These young scholars will quickly learn how to code Dash to follow a path. The iPads will connect Dash to the Blockly app using Bluetooth. These robots will be a great tool at our school to support STEM! I am eager to introduce my first graders to coding with robots and coding with tiles using the Osmos. Not only will they code, but my students will additionally utilize the Osmos in Math and ELA small group to work on sight words and number sense.
