My Students
Music is a way for students to explore a huge realm of subjects. Every week, my students use music as a way to explore math concepts and cultures around the world and to find out who they are.
I have 28 students who are amazing individuals and strive to work as a team.
They like to use hands-on activities and manipulatives to explore the subjects they are expected to study in 6th grade. I also have 60 choir students who work hard as a team to learn a variety of music around the world.
My Project
My students need a variety of percussion instruments including a bell kit, rhythm sticks. and egg shaker set. By providing the requested percussion instruments, my students will be able to take their knowledge of music around the world and explore different subjects to a higher level of understanding. Right now, most of my students have to share the few instruments I personally own or use body percussion. The provided instruments would provide every student in my classroom and many in my choir an opportunity to expand their understanding of music and how musicians share their knowledge of many things by playing music. They will also be used to practice fractions, multiplication/division, music of cultures around the world, improvisation, accompaniment and other musical areas.
By providing these instruments, my students will be able to explore every day, not just when I am able to borrow from the local middle or high schools.
By making activities in class more hands-on using the instruments, students will be more engaged thus learning and retaining more.
