This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching in a low-income/high-poverty school/community, I see how my students are faced with daily challenges. These challenges include poverty, poor health, and parents who may be unable to afford resources such as books, computers, or even family weekend activities that would create positive learning experiences for them.

My students love to read, create, and learn.

I teach a first-grade class formed with 14 girls and 10 boys whose parents may not have the financial resources or time available to provide them with the skills and material needed to prepare them for the careers of the future.

My Project

Books such as I am Yoga, I am Love, Ruby Finds a Worry, and The Color Monster will help me provide a foundation for safe and positive learning, and enhances students' ability to succeed in school, careers, and life. Our students have been living through a pandemic, couped up at home with no social interaction beyond their immediate family.

Now more than ever bringing social-emotional learning to life is very important, whether our students continue learning at home or in a hybrid model.

These books will give my students the opportunity to learn and discuss topics such as kindness, sharing, and empathy. Improving their attitudes towards school, and reducing their anxiety and stress.
