Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I am privileged to watch 18 passionate kindergarten students stroll through my classroom door with huge smiles on their faces and a true desire to learn. I have an EL student that is visually impaired as well as an EL student with Autism who desperately need supplies to help modify, accommodate and enhance their learning. My classroom community is full of compassion towards each other, thirst to learn new things, and willingness to help others make my classroom environment ideal. I am in desperate need of materials to help them be successful in academic, social and emotional aspects in their day.
Our school is very diverse and full of students who are eager and wanting to learn.
The majority of my students live in homes that English is not spoken at all. The only chance at learning English is within our school walls. I incorporate lots of hands-on activities as well as lots of opportunities for students to speak in their first and second language. All of my students are extremely eager to strengthen their English language skills.
My Project
I have 18 wonderfully loving and nurturing EL students. Of the 18 I have a visually impaired as well as an student with autism who need lots of materials to properly function on a day to day basis. My students have fully embraced my exceptional education students and have helped me choose a space and materials that would help them both function and be successful within our classroom.
We are creating a safe or calming zone where both students can go and refocus, calm down, and rest when needed throughout the day when they get over stimulated.
The exercise ball, squishy balls, trampoline, noise canceling headphones, and rug will help create a soothing space to calm down. The listening center, braille activities and math manipulatives are more tactile materials to help them further explore and learn our kindergarten standards.
These materials will help all of my students gain control and reenter when ready.
