My students need prisms. optical tanks, and other optical materials to allow complex science demonstrations to be viewed and an external hard drive to save their projects and presentations.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Bernson's classroom raised $736

My Students
My students are expected to learn complex concepts about light and optics - and they're only 10 years old!
These fifth grade students attend attend an intermediate school in Connecticut.
Expectations for them are high, and this is the first year they will take a standardized state test in Science. Concepts involving the study of light are difficult at their level of development without materials that can bring those concepts to life before their eyes. Reading about it is not enough.
My Project
I'm requesting demonstration materials that will allow them to see light actually being refracted by various lenses and prisms, to explore how the placement of multiple lenses at the proper distances apart can create a telescope, to see before their eyes the effect on light rays when passing from air into water. Additionally, they will be able to store the videos they create when exploring these properties of light, and have that storage be portable for presentations to others outside the classroom as they become teachers themselves.
These materials will allow students to develop a deep understanding of complex scientific ideas that often elude children who rely on only text or lectures.
At this age, they are at a crossroads, possibly becoming turned off to science, or turned on by it and perhaps becoming the scientists and engineers who will solve the problems of tomorrow.
