My Students
Integration, Innovation, and Inquiry represents what we strive for at our school. Our students strive to think outside of the box and learn about the world they live in unique and relevant ways. Because our students live in middle to upper middle class neighborhoods, public school funding for innovative products is not as readily available as is available in lower socio-economic schools. For this reason, we need to rely on funding from outside sources such as grants and DonorsChoose to provide unique and rich experiences that these students need.
Middle School students are naturally curious about the world they live in and are very aware of the fun and exciting technologies available.
They are highly motivated when they are given these opportunities. It is the goal of our school to bring them these opportunities in a way that allows them to explore their current educational demands in unique and integrated ways.
My Project
Virtual Reality has come a long way. It is now an affordable way to bring a dynamic way for students to learn about and visualize the world around us. There are many different apps that are free now, where students can see 3D depictions of cells, see how the human body functions, see how weather can affect us, and see forces of nature acting upon the world we live in.
Instead of reading textbooks, I want students to experience 3D interactive videos that allow the students to step in to the scientific world they live in.
Having the VR viewers will allow them to experience the material they are learning in a way that a textbook or worksheet will never provide for them. They will make the learning experience much more meaningful and long-lasting.
