The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.
- William Arthur Ward
My 24 Kindergarten students attend a Title I public school in a beautiful coastal town in North Carolina.
All economic levels are represented, as well as students with English as their second language. Our state has adopted the new Common Core Curriculum which has integrated Science and Technology into all parts of the daily curriculum.
We live in a resort/fishing town with lots of migration in the off tourist season. Our school is small, with only 3 teachers per grade level. Our community is close and most everyone works in some type of trade to benefit the resort areas. I would like to take online professional development classes that include Science and Technology to inspire my students to branch out from their comfort zone and think more about the world around them.
My Project
I have taught for 15 years in the public school system. I love using technology to engage my students in their daily lessons. I use technology whenever I can and I have to be very creative with the limited technology that is available to us. I feel I am a loving teacher who does whatever possible to help my students grow and learn more about nature and what can be done.
I have taught all grades, K-5th. I have also taught Academically Gifted children and students with special needs in an inclusion type class. I have always wanted to be a teacher and am willing to teach to the best of my ability whoever is put in my class. I love for children to think outside the box and welcome creativity in my classroom. There are new inventions and state of the art technology almost daily, as a teacher I need to keep abreast of these new ideas by taking professional development courses.
I need an iPad Air 2 with headphones and speaker to use in online professional development workshops that require participants to activity participate.
I live in a rural area and I cannot travel to workshops to learn more Science and Technology projects that would benefit my students. With this iPad Air 2 I would be able to attend the many workshops offered online for the STEM curriculum. These workshops would benefit my students by having the newest and best strategies and resources available.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
