Bringing Science and Engineering to 1st Grade

My Students

Our 1st grade classroom is full of wonderers, mathematicians, readers, writers, artists and scientists. They love to ask questions, explore and discover. They work together and strive to do their personal best. They arrive at school eager to share their observations and thoughts about the world around them.

Their enthusiasm and curiosity are a source of daily inspiration.

Every day we work, learn and grow together at our arts and inquiry-based elementary school. I worked with these amazing students in Kindergarten as well, so it is truly a joy to see their continued growth as we dive into 1st grade.

My Project

The materials in this project will help supply 2 areas new to our classroom, a maker space and a science corner. My students are fundraising to get a class pet! They are raising the money for a leopard gecko and your donations would supply the heat lamp and other set up basics to help make their vision come to life. This new addition to our classroom space will provide opportunities to learn about and spark interest in science as well as encourage responsibility and caring.

This year we have started a maker space in our classroom.

We need some new supplies that students can use to build, design and create. Your donations would encourage building and collaboration with Legos and Magna-Tiles. Wire, wire cutters, hole punches and other supplies will encourage them to create and tinker. Finally, we need drawers to keep all of their loose parts together and easily accessible.
