My Students

There are many challenges that face my students everyday of their lives. They are low-income urban kids who are receiving special education services for a multitude of disabilities. They deserve an education enhanced with technology just like their counterparts receive. We need your help.

The students I serve are special education students located in low-income sections of the District of Columbia.

My students are low scoring on reading and math state assessments and face many external challenges on an everyday basis. The school I teach is one of the few remaining public charter schools in the district that offer full therapeutic services for students as well as vocational training and an academic track. I am a special education teacher who teaches 11th grade chemistry and I want my students to be excited about the science Fair that's coming up. I want them to care about their education overall. Technology works really well with my students because it allows us to present information to them in various ways thus enhancing their learning experience.

My Project

Currently , we do not have enough technology to go around so I am asking for a LCD projector and a printer. I am attempting to motivate the kids to do great science fair projects and want them to create PowerPoint presentations of their project instead of a research paper (my students don't like to write). This is one way of updating the Science Fair as well as getting the kids to use the computers to create them. I am asking for a printer so my kids can print out their data tables, graphs and pictures of their experiments to make their science fair boards rock!!

This project will have a great impact on my students because these are the types of things they believe they can't do and I need your help to prove them wrong.

I want to engage them in some positive school experiences that are exciting and engaging as well as having equipment that can help me become a more effective teacher is a windfall for everyone involved. Please donate to my project and help my kids affirm the beliefs I have instilled in them, which is they can do anything!
