Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is an elementary school that serves students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. We are located in the middle of a diverse and dense urban population in Los Angeles, California. We are part of a bilingual community in a dual language classroom. My students are full of energy and eager to learn about themselves, their community and the world.

We are a Title I school that serves low-income families from different cultural backgrounds and diverse needs.

In today's classroom technology is a great tool in the learning process and our students don't have complete access to the most updated tools.

My Project

My students' service project this year has them exploring homelessness and poverty in their local community. Using our math and science curriculum students will be investigating the trends and causes of poverty and the impact it has on local families. Using the iPads requested in the first project students will be using the technology to explore, investigate and will also be communicating their learning in a digital format. They will be recording their journey of their service project to showcase to our school community.

Technology serves as a great tool for exploration, communication and presentation.

Through the iPads students will be utilizing iMovie to record and present their service projects. The headphones requested are an essential part for recording, editing and publishing purposes. Students learn quickly with the use of technology and these headphones will help make this process smoother for my students. A few of the headphones we currently own are outdated and need to be replaced. This new set will also help us complete a class set for all students to be able to be part of the learning process at the same time.
