Help me give my students therapy materials that will increase participation during occupational teletherapy sessions. These materials are basic OT materials used to target fine motor, visual motor, and sensory integration skills!
I am an occupational therapist working in an elementary school for children with special needs. My caseload consists of students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, down syndrome, and specific learning disabilities. My students are caring and motivated to make strides in their academic and occupational therapy (OT) goals. As an occupational therapist, I get to see my students participate in all settings throughout the school day.
Sometimes it's the little things that make the most impact for my students.
My students vary in ages, academic levels, interests, behaviors and learning styles. All of my students have unique needs and learn very differently. I am constantly searching for ways to engage them in learning and help each and every child achieve their best.
My Project
Classrooms today consist of not just school buildings, but also students' homes. For many of my students, this means they lack access to many of the essential materials that I can provide for them in the classroom setting. Occupational therapy sessions are often difficult to implement due to a lack of basic materials in my students' homes. I will use these materials to create individualized packages for each child so they can have access to the essential supplies we use during occupational therapy services.
Materials like dressing boards, construction paper, scissors, and other craft materials will be used during sessions to target important functional life skills and improve independence in activities of daily living!
These materials will make the world of a difference to the children and families during Occupational Therapy.
