“Bringing Music to Life: Building Our Band from Scratch”

Help me give my students the tools to form their own modern band—including an electric drum kit, microphones, PA system, mixer, and tuners—so they can rehearse, perform, and find their musical voice together.

My Project

My students are incredible young people who bring rich, diverse experiences into our classroom. Many are English Learners from refugee or immigrant backgrounds, and music is often one of the first spaces where they feel confident expressing themselves. They are curious, collaborative, and eager to learn—especially when they get to make real music with real instruments.

This project will give them the tools they need to build and perform in their own modern band.

With an electronic drum kit, microphones, speaker system, mixer, and other essentials, students will be able to rehearse like a real band from day one. These resources will help us create a hands-on, performance-based music class where students take ownership of their roles—whether that's on the drums, vocals, keyboard, or behind the soundboard. My goal is to give every student the chance to participate meaningfully, build confidence, and develop lifelong musical and teamwork skills.

By supporting this project, you're helping students who often don’t get access to this kind of equipment find their voice—literally and figuratively. You’re helping them transform from quiet observers to empowered performers, and I can’t wait to see the impact this has on their learning and confidence.
