This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine understanding the importance of cells when we ourselves can't even see it without essential materials? Now imagine being a 7th grader and learning for the first time the discovery and importance of cell biology, genetics, evolution, etc!
Most of my students are from low income and high poverty areas.
Some of them have speech difficulties and learning disabilities, while a few cannot speak English at all. Yet despite these challenges, many of my students are motivated and eager to learn. They come to school everyday on time. Some of my students want to be doctors and vets, while others want to be lawyers and teachers. Most of them want to be all these great things because they want to help people. My students have these goals in life, and they've even dedicated their goals to their mom, dad, siblings, and to themselves. However, because they belong to low income communities, most of them have not been exposed to a lot of opportunities outside of their neighborhood. Some of them lacked the basic knowledge of spelling and measuring taught in elementary school, and most of them are unsure of the importance of science.
My Project
In order to serve my 150+ students everyday, our class needs an LCD projector. Learning the beauty of science would be so much more vibrant and engaging if science is presented visually. I want to be able to display my PowerPoint slides and show animations and videos, which will make learning science more visual and engaging. I believe that by having a visual representation of hard to understand concepts, my students would be able to lay a foundation for science and build from it. By having an LCD projector, I would be able to reach all my kids despite their learning disabilities and their inability to speak English.
Please donate to the cause.
A good science education is important for my students. Mastering life science can open many doors of opportunities for my students, who are currently living in very poor communities. By donating to the cause, you will be able to help change the lives of 150+ students and help break the cycle of poverty.
