it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a special place because it is one of the most diverse schools in our school district. Our school mission revolves around accepting diversity! We have used sports to connect our students and have committed to being a healthy campus. In recent months, we have been challenged as a school and community due to the budget crisis. Although we have been able to use creativity in our curriculum, we are in desperate need of teaching resources.
The low-income students we have at our school have many challenges outside of school that make the chance for an equal opportunity even more of a vital necessity.
We are now in a scramble to find equipment that intrigues kids to stay healthy! Accommodating our large number of students has become even more of an untouchable situation because of our lack of resources. Through this tough situation, we have stuck together and managed to create a limited learning environment, but need the community's help!
My Project
The medicine balls and kettlebells will allow our lessons to provide more advanced, unique styles of workouts. The resources will also truly bring excitement and joy to kids that are used to "pass me down" equipment. The new equipment will bring excitement to each class, and students will be eager to participate! The fact that these are low income, less fortunate students means we realize the importance of exercise in their lives. We also understand the importance of making hope exist in these students' lives, and so we must provide intriguing ways for them to make exercise a part of their lives!
