Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a small Title I high school located in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, NY. We are located in "Asthma Alley," and sandwiched between two major urban bridges - the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.

All of my students are recent arrivals to the United States and English language learners.

They come from every part of the globe seeking a new life of opportunity and freedom here in the United States. They come with the hope that education will allow them to meet their full potential.

Many are on public assistance; many others are barely surviving. Yet, my students are expected to meet the same educational standards as more affluent students of New York.

My Project

Many of my students have a close relationship with nature and growing plants in their homelands. This project will allow them to create a small desktop greenhouse garden and study the impact of different environmental factors on different species of plants.

With the resources like a collection of different representative plants, and seeds to grow plants, my students will have the opportunity to study plants through hands-on learning experiences.

We need your support to obtain the plants we need for our research project.

Unfortunately, conducting science experiments and hands-on activities is expensive, but I believe they are essential to truly understand science.

With your help, we can make science meaningful and memorable. Thank you for supporting public education in New York City.
