Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help bring the American Revolution to our classroom! The books that I have chosen are not only informational but also biographical and historical fiction texts. This will give students the opportunity to learn about the revolution through the people living it.

My 5th grade students are readers!

They love to read everything they get a hold of. Unfortunately, they live in a low-income urban community were books are seldom available. I have a mixed ability group, from newcomers to the country from countries like Mongolia and El Salvador to English only students. All 30 of them are in love with learning, especially through text.

My Project

The resources requested are 32 high-interest books on the American Revolution. They vary from informational texts, to biographies, to historical fiction. I carefully selected each of these books to match the child who is going to read them. As a teacher I know what kinds of books each of my students like to read, so if they are into story telling I choose a book that tells a story. While other students like the high-graphics informational text like in magazines. The books were also selected to match the students reading level. Some books are written for middle school students while others are more primary. This is done so that no matter their level of reading they will each learn the content required.

What is your most memorable moment in 5th grade?

Is it opening a history book or math book? I am sure that your most memorable moments from your elementary school life were those projects that taught you something new, that expanded your thinking and point of view. The books will serve as resources to a learning project on the American Revolution. These books are the stepping stone to a life long memorable project that they will recall for the rest of their lives. Please help my students!
