Bringing Genetics and Biotechnology to Life in Our Classroom!
Help me give my students the tools to explore DNA, genetics, and biotechnology through hands-on experiments with lab kits, grow lights, and genetic seeds!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Osler's classroom raised $516
This project is fully funded
My Project
My students came into biology excited, thinking we’d spend the year doing labs and real science. They were disappointed to learn we didn’t have the resources. Many of my students come from underserved communities and don’t have access to science experiences outside of school. They are bright, curious, and eager to learn by doing, not just reading. This project will turn our classroom into a mini biotech lab, allowing students to explore essential biology content and standards through meaningful hands-on activities.
This project will turn our classroom into a mini biotech lab, allowing students to explore essential Genetic concepts through meaningful hands-on activities.
I am requesting a “From DNA to Protein” kit, which will allow students to model how genetic information is used in cells. A Biotechnology Kit for DNA Extraction of E. coli will give students real-world experience isolating DNA, similar to how DNA is extracted in a real lab. The Genetic Corn Seeds will help to reinforce genetic concepts, including inheritance patterns and phenotype ratios. The LED Grow Light will provide the necessary light to grow our corn plants indoors.
This project supports key biology standards through hands-on materials. Students will better understand how DNA directs cellular activity, predict inheritance patterns, and evaluate the impact of genetic technology on society. These labs build scientific thinking and align with our end-of-course assessment goals.
Thank you in advance for bringing real science to life for my students!
