Bringing ESL Students Into the 21st Century After the Storm
My students need one Apple IPOD touch digital player, one OtterBox case, and one Zagg full body shield. This will help me to create activities for all academic subjects including: phonics, reading, math, writing, science and social studies.

My Students
The pitter patter of little feet have finally arrived to school and eager minds are ready like little sponges to soak up knowledge and grow!
My students have recently been devastated from an EF-5 tornado destroying many of their schools, churches, parks and homes Many of our schools have suffered significant damage.
I would like help our district become stable again. I serve bright students with limited English skills. My students are excited about learning and eager to learn.
Many of my students are from different countries speaking many languages. Some speak Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Mandarin, and Filipino. With the language challenges ESL (English as a Second Language) students face on a day to day basis, we are in need of rebuilding, restoring, and healing in an atmosphere that displays fun, hands-on technology. The ESL Department would like your help for this dream to grow.
My Project
With an IPOD touch I could download podcasts, videos, and international dictionaries with a touch of a finger. Many of my ELL, English Language Learner, students are limited in the English language. An IPOD touch would enable me to look up vocabulary with an international dictionary in my student's native language to help translate math, reading, science or social studies concepts which would help to close the ever growing language gap. Videos can be downloaded and used as a writing prompt tool. The videos will explain and display many concepts such as, the life cycle of a butterfly.
My ELL students can download podcasts in the English language and can be utilized as a tutorial for pronouncing English words correctly as well as listening to audio books. The use of an IPOD touch would allow me to document reading fluency by creating an iTunes playlist of each student's audio readings to show their progress throughout the year and create a CD to share with parents.
As we prepare for a new school year, it's time for my students to move forward with bigger and better opportunities in a technology rich classroom.
This project will help stimulate and inspire children to learn by using hands-on technology from their generation. Your help with funding will allow me to create activities for all academic subjects including: phonics, reading, math, writing, science and social studies through many of the free Applications available through Apple.
