Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These books would be used to teach the 5th grade students a unit on non-fiction. I have used this book in past schools and it had a magical way of engaging the students in reading as well as difficult conversations about human rights and emigration.
My goal for this project is to build a class set of texts that will enhance our nonfiction unit.
The hope is that with a class set my 6 sections of reading will be able to share books allowing them to read along, have rich discussions, and complete critical thinking activities with complex themes.
My students are so special. They are the kindest group of students I have had the pleasure of working with. Most of my students are bilingual and focused on learning. I work in a small urban community right outside of NYC, it is the most densely populated city in the country. I love my students and hope to provide them with the opportunity to read this wonderful graphic novel.
