This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Pre-K students love coming to school to learn and play with their friends. They think our classroom is perfect. They don't see that if we had a few extra materials, we would be able to do so many more things.
They are happy with what we have, but I want to give them more.
We are the only Pre-K class at our school and my students are a great bunch of kids. They are just starting out and they are so excited to come to school every day.
As their teacher, I try to maintain that excitement so that they will always love coming to school. Most of them come from very low-income homes and have never been in school before entering my class.
My Project
These new books will be integrated into the different centers in our classroom. So the art books like Art Workshop for Children will go in our Art Center. This way the children will have reference materials to look at and gain inspiration from. They will be able to independently access these books while they play in centers. The books about buildings like Let's Build will go in the Block Center so students can get ideas for their structures.
This will help them build literacy and research skills.
The Children's Encyclopedias will help as we work on classroom projects together. I want them to understand that research doesn't have to mean just Googling for the answer. I hope that by introducing these skills now, they will have a good foundation for the rest of their education.
